McCurdy Named Offensive Player Of The Week

Sept. 1, 2008

IOWA CITY – The Big Ten Conference today named University of Iowa senior forward Caitlin McCurdy Offensive Player of the Week for her play in Iowa’s matches against No. 3 Wake Forest and No. 1 North Carolina. It is McCurdy’s fourth career Big Ten weekly honor.

McCurdy picked up the accolade with her play in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge over the weekend. Sunday, McCurdy led the fifth-ranked Hawkeyes to a 3-2 victory over top-rated North Carolina, ending the defending national champion Tar Heels’ 25-game winning streak. In the win, she had two goals, including the game winner in the 68th minute. Saturday, McCurdy scored her first goal of the season in a 3-2 loss to Wake Forest.

For the season, she leads the Hawkeyes in goals (3) and points (6).

“Caitlin had a very solid weekend for us,” said Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum. “She worked hard to get open against the Wake Forest and North Carolina defenses. She finished with goals when we needed them.”

Iowa will host No. 15 American Friday at 3 p.m. in its first home game of the 2008 season.
