EAST LANSING, MI – – The University of Iowa women’s golf team improved on Sunday to finish the Mary Fossum Invitational in eighth place. The team score for the third round of play was 317. Overall, the team total was 939. Michigan State and Kent State tied for first place by carding an 891.
Tyrette Metzendorf, senior from Winter Haven, FL, moved up a spot on the leaderboard after carding a 75 on her final round. She tied for eighth place and led the Hawkeyes through both days of the tournament (+7, 223). Senior Becky Quinby ended the day in a tie for 36th place overall (+19 235).
Junior Alison Cavanaugh had a good day on the links Sunday, firing a 78 to move her up three spots on the individual leaderboard ending in a tie for 48th place (+23 239). Sophomore Laura Cilek (+29 245) remained consistent throughout the tournament finishing tied for 59th, and freshman Chelsea Harris (+30 246) had a good first outing as a Hawkeye finishing 63rd. Sophomore Brianna Coopman bettered her spot in the individual standings by moving up to 73rd place overall after shooting a 257 (+47).
The Hawkeyes will return to Iowa City for the week to prepare to for their next competition, the Johnnie Imes Invitational, in Colombia, MO, Sept. 29-30.
