IOWA CITY, IA – The Hawkeyes posted a team score of 314 in the final round at the Hawkeye Invitational, hosted by Iowa at Finkbine Golf Course. Over the three rounds, Iowa finished with a team score of 926, which placed them in second behind Ball State by five strokes.
Alison Cavanaugh kept the trend going for the Iowa golf team today. She surpassed her personal best over 18 holes, previously a 78, by carding a 73 in her final round of the tournament. She was one of six golfers on the Hawkeye roster to set a new personal record this weekend. Cavanaugh finished tied for 51st (244, +28). Senior Tyrette Metzendorf completed her 100th career round as an Iowa Hawkeye today. This achievement puts her in the record books with only eight other golfers in Iowa history who have also accomplished this. Along with this feat, Tyrette finished third individually by carding a 54 hole score of 226 (+10).
Co-captain Laura Cilek was strong for the Hawkeyes at their home tournament. She fired a 234 (+18) to finish tied for 14th individually. Fellow co-captain Becky Quinby (+23, 239) fought relentlessly back from a two hole trap in the third round. After doubling then quadrupling on the back nine, she stayed strong for the team and parred out the remaining five holes. Chelsea Harris (242, +26) was the final competing member on Iowa’s roster this weekend. She finished out her first Hawkeye Invitational in a tie for 46th along with fellow teammate Brianna Coopman (242, +26), who competed as an individual.
Sophomore Lauren Forbes had another successful day on the links as she finished tied for 27th individually. Over 54 holes, she posted 238 (+22) and broke personal records in almost every category-18 hole (78), 36 hole (157), 54 hole (238), and best career finish (T27). Sophomore Amanda Stahl (+38, 254) and freshman Ann Vrdolyak (+37, 253) also competed as individuals for Iowa and finished in a tie for 73rd and tie for 71st, respectively.
Although the Hawkeyes did not come out on top, they improved their game this weekend. Six of Iowa’s nine golfers improved their personal bests and as a team, Iowa shot its second lowest round of the season. Iowa will travel to West Lafayette, IN, to compete in the Lady Northern Invitational, hosted by Purdue, on Oct. 18-19.
