Oct. 27, 2008

IOWA CITY, IA – The Big Ten Conference Monday named University of Iowa senior back Lauren Pfeiffer Offensive Player of the Week for her play in Iowa’s victory at No. 8 Michigan State this weekend. This is Pfeiffer’s third career Big Ten weekly honor and second this season. Iowa leads the Big Ten in weekly honors earned with six this year.

Saturday, the Mt. Laurel, NJ, native led the 10th-ranked Hawkeyes in a 4-3, overtime victory over Michigan State. The senior recorded two goals and a defensive save in the contest against the eighth-ranked Spartans. Her second goal of the day came in the 81st minute of play and was the game-winner for Iowa. Pfeiffer played every minute of the game.

“Lauren dominated both sides of the ball Saturday,” said Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum. “She took charge offensively and defensively and showed a lot of determination. Lauren is playing well at the right time of the season and is providing great leadership.”

No. 10 Iowa returns home this weekend to face Michigan in its final regular season game. The Hawkeyes and Wolverines will battle Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grant Field. The game can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.
