Five Hawkeyes Earn All-Big Ten Honors

IOWA CITY, IA – The Big Ten Conference announced Thursday that five members of the University of Iowa field hockey team have earned all-Big Ten Honors.

Seniors Caroline Blaum, Roz Ellis and Lauren Pfeiffer have been named to the first team. In addition, junior Meghan Beamesderfer and senior Lissa Munley have been named to the second team. Munley also represents Iowa’s Sportsmanship Award honoree.

Blaum, a native of Wilkes-Barre, PA, was named to the first team last season and to the second team in 2005. She has started all 18 games this season and ranks fourth on the team in points (25). Blaum had multiple point games in eight contests this season. She has been named a team captain four times in her career.

Ellis, who hails from Lewisburg, PA, was named to the first team last season as a junior. She also earned academic all-Big Ten honors last season. Ellis is a team captain and has recorded 13 points this season on three goals and seven assists. Additionally, she has recorded a defensive save and a game-winning goal for the Hawkeyes in 2008.

Pfeiffer, a native of Mt. Laurel, NJ, was also named first team all-Big Ten last season. Pfeiffer has also been named academic all-Big Ten the last two seasons. She has 35 total points this season (16 goals, 3 assists) and has scored three goals in a game twice this year. Pfeiffer leads the Hawkeyes in goals (16) and total points (35) in 2008.

Beamesderfer, who hails from Lititz, PA, was named to the first team as a junior in 2007 and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2006. She has started all 18 games this season for the Hawkeyes and is a key component on an Iowa defense that has recorded six shutouts.

Munley, a native of Mountain Top, PA, won the 2007 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. She has earned academic all-Big Ten honors each of the last two seasons. The senior goalkeeper has recorded six shutouts this season to tie for first in the Big Ten. She has played every minute in goal for Iowa this season and is a team captain.

Thirty-seven Hawkeyes have received all-Big Ten honors under Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum.
