Iowa Takes On The Wolverines

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team will travel to Ann Arbor, MI to face the Michigan Wolverines Friday January 30. Competition is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Newt Loken Gymnastics Training Center.

TEAM RANKINGS
The Hawkeyes head into the match up ranked 13th after last week’s competitions according to the GymInfo weekly poll. Opponent Michigan is currently ranked 2nd according to the same poll.

LAST WEEK
The Hawkeyes defeated Illinois-Chicago 329.55 to 325.55 in Iowa City. Iowa grabbed four first place finishes during the meet, grabbing their first team victory of the 2009 season. Senior Geoff Reins captured two wins, on floor exercise (15.10) and vault (15.80), while Freshman Zach Cazabon placed first on the parallel bars with a 14.05. Jonathan Buese captured the all-around title with an 81.55. Iowa had six season bests, including total team score.

LAST YEAR AGAINST MICHIGAN
Iowa fell to Michigan in Iowa City 338.60 to 341.95. Hawkeyes placed in the top three in each event and captured three first place finishes. Ben Ketelsen placed first in the all-around with a total score of 82.40 and in floor exercise with a 14.95. He aslo placed second on vault (15.50) and horizontal bar (13.90). Jonathan Buese won the parallel bar competition with a 14.60.

HEAD COACH Tom Dunn
In his 28th year at Iowa, Head Coach Tom Dunn, has recorded a 213-112-2 record at Iowa. In 1998 and 2006, Dunn was named Big Ten Coach of the Year and College Gymnastics Association Central Region Coach of the Year. He has led the Hawkeyes to 17 top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships. Iowa has competed at the NCAA meet 17 of the past 22 seasons. Dunn has also coached 32 individuals to 64 all-America honors and 20 gymnasts to 32 Big Ten titles.
