DELAND, FL – The Iowa women’s golf team traveled to DeLand, FL to compete against Stetson University in its first meet of the spring season. The two teams met at the Victoria Hills Country Club on Saturday. Iowa defeated Stetson by five strokes, shooting 312.
Tyrette Metzendorf led all scores by shooting just one over (73) followed by fellow senior Hawkeye Becky Quinby who carded 75 (+3). Sophomore Brianna Coopman helped to push the Iowa team past the Hatters by firing 80 (+8) while Alison Cavanaugh rounded out the Hawkeye scorecard with 84 (+12). Freshman standout Laura Cilek also traveled to the “Sunshine State” to compete in the dual and finished with 89 (+17). Stetson’s top scores were posted by Danielle Jackson and Christine Fraser, both shot six over (78).
Iowa will return to action on March 9-10 to compete in the Eagle Landing Tournament help in Orange Park, FL. The tournament is the first of four spring tournaments before the Hawkeyes compete in the Big Ten Championships in April.
