Iowa Women's Golf to Compete in First Spring Tournament

THIS WEEK — The Iowa women’s golf team is kicking off the spring season at the Eagle Landing Invitational, hosted by James Madison University. Eagle Landing Golf Course is located in Orange Park, FL.

THE COMPETITION — The 15-team tournament includes three Big Ten teams. Penn State and Illinois along with Iowa will compete against Barry, East Carolina, Elon, High Point, Jacksonville, James Madison, Kennesaw State, South Florida, Southern Mississippi, UNC-Greensboro, Tennessee-Chattanooga and Yale.

LINEUP — Competing for the Hawkeyes are seniors Tyrette Metzendorf and Becky Quinby, junior Alison Cavanaugh, and sophomore Brianna Coopman, and freshman Chelsea Harris.

HEAD COACH Kelly Crawford — Kelly Crawford is in her third season as the University of Iowa’s head women’s golf coach. In the fall season, the Hawkeyes placed in the top ten in four of five tournaments, including second place at the Hawkeye Invitational.

LAST COMPETITION — The Hawkeyes recently competed in a dual match with Stetson University, defeating the Hatters 312-317. The dual was a pre-season match up for the golfers to get back into rhythm before spring competition began.

NEXT COMPETITION — Next week, the team will travel to Waco, TX, to compete in the Baylor Spring Invitational. The tournament on March 16-17, will be the second of four tournaments the Hawkeyes will compete in before traveling in April to West Lafayette, IN, for the Big Ten Championships.
