Hawkeyes Compete In Day Two Of Invite

STATESBORO, GA – Despite beating Friday’s performance by eight strokes, the University of Iowa men’s golf team finished day two at the EZ-GO Schenkel Invitational in 17th place. South Carolina and Florida are in a tie for the lead after the second day with a score of 579 (+3). The 30th annual invitational is being held at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, GA.

After shooting a 71 (-1) today, sophomore Brad Hopfinger is tied for 20th place with a 36-hole total of 145 (+1). Senior Cole Peevler (151, +7) is tied for 63rd while freshman Brad George and sophomore Vince India are both sitting in a tie for 70th (152, +8). Additionally, freshman Barrett Kelpin took eight strokes off yesterday’s performance and is currently tied for 89th with a score of 156 (+12).

“Overall I think we played a lot better today than we did yesterday,” said head coach Mark Hankins. “We’re not that far out of it, and if we have five guys that leave a few less shots out there tomorrow, we’ll be right in it.”

The tournament will conclude tomorrow with the final 18 holes beginning at approximately 7 am. Fans can follow the tournament with live scoring at golfstatresults.com.
