DELRAY BEACH, FL – The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished the second round of the Spring Break Championship today with an 18 hole score of 299 (+15). The Hawkeyes, shooting 590 (+22) for the tournament, are currently sharing eighth place with Notre Dame. Illinois (569, +1) still holds the lead after two rounds. The inaugural tournament is being played on the Victory Course at Gleneagles Country Club in Delray Beach, FL.
With tough winds making today’s conditions difficult, two Hawkeyes managed to shoot rounds just over par. Senior Cole Peevler (142, E) and freshman Brad George (148, +6), both shot rounds of 72 (+1) today. Peevler is tied for fifth place and George is in a tie for 32nd. Sophomore Brad Hopfinger is tied at 45th with a score of 150 (+8). Freshman Chris Brant and sophomore Vince India are both in a tie for 59th with 36-hole totals of 152 (+10).
“We had a couple guys play really well today, we just couldn’t get anyone else to do the same,” said Head Coach Mark Hankins. “We kept dropping shots and no one could turn it around. We’re going to keep competing tomorrow and finish strong like we always try to do.”
The tournament will conclude tomorrow with the final 18 holes beginning at approximately 7:30 a.m. Fans can follow the tournament with live scoring at golfstatresults.com.
