IOWA CITY – Major League pitcher and former Hawkeye standout Wes Obermueller will throw out the first pitch at the final Corridor Classic Tuesday against Northern Iowa, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids.The proceeds from the Kiss A Pig and raffles at the stadium benefit the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
Fans wishing to purchase tickets can do so by calling the Cedar Rapids Kernels Ticket Office at (319) 896-7560 or by stopping by the stadium’s Bimm Ridder Diamond Shop. Tickets are also available on-line at www.kernels.com.
Tickets are $10 for Premier seats; $9 for Club seats; $8 for Plaza seats; and $7 for Lawn seats.
The Miller Mezzanine and Randy Kuehl Honfidence Pavilion will be open to the public. Tickets are $25 each and include an all-you-can-eat food and beverage package.
Obermuller was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the second round of the 1999 draft. Since then, he has played with the Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves and Florida Marlins. He has a 5.82 ERA in the majors and is currently a free agent.
Obermueller, a Vinton, Iowa native, transferred to Iowa his sophomore season from Kirkwood Community College. He was an outfielder at Kirkwood, came to Iowa as a shortstop and was moved to the mound as a junior. Obermueller collected 91 strikeouts during the 1999 season, while also compiling a .352 batting average with 24 RBI.
