July 22, 2009

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO – Kurtis Muller was named the Northwoods All-Star MVP yesterday at Port Arthur Stadium. The Hawkeye outfielder went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two stolen bases batting leadoff for the South division in a 4-2 win over the North.

This summer, Muller is hitting the third best in the league with a .330 batting average. He ranks in the top ten amongst all Northwoods players in stolen bases (17), on base percentage (.406), at bats (185), runs (38) and hits (61).

“We are excited for the success Kurtis has had this summer in the Northwoods,” Head Coach Jack Dahm said. “Being voted the Mallards team leader by his teammates, as well as being named to the All-Star team and earning the honor of All-Star game MVP is tremendous. Kurtis’ goal was to get better this summer and I think it is safe to say he is doing that.”

Iowa teammate, southpaw Zach Robertson, pitched the third inning keeping the game scoreless. In one inning of work, he allowed two hits and struck out one.

“What a great honor for Zach to be named an All-Star this summer,” Dahm said. “He has been doing a great job on the mound for Rochester and we are very thrilled about how he has done this summer.”
