Iowa Soccer Scrimmage a Success

Aug. 15, 2009

The University of Iowa women’s soccer team held it’s preseason scrimmage at the Iowa Soccer Complex Friday night. The black team prevailed 4-3 in a hard fought match. The scrimmage showcased both the experience and new faces of the program.

Senior Kim White scored all three goals for the white team. White sat out last season due to injury after transferring to Iowa from Iowa Central Community College. Kali Feiereisel and Stephanie Swanson split time in the net for the losing team combining for nine saves. Freshman Dana Dalrymple seemed right in step with junior Amanda Martin, as both took four shots, two on goal.

The winning goalie for the black team was sophomore Emily Moran. The Kent, OH native recorded 5 saves. Big Ten All-Freshman team selection Morgan Showalter led the black team along with freshman Alyscha Mottershead with 4 shots, 3 on goal, and a goal each. Alyssa Cosnek and Jade Grimm also recorded a goal a piece for the winning team.

“I’m happy to see how far our team has come and how much progress we’ve made in the first two weeks of preseason,” said Head Coach Ron Rainey. “I think everyone did a great job and we’re looking forward to our season opener next week against Missouri.”

Iowa will host Missouri next Friday in the season opener at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The game is the first of a three-game stretch at home for the Hawkeyes. They host Montana and South Dakota State on August 28 and 30.
