IOWA CITY, IA – – The University of Iowa field hockey team lost to No. 14 Louisville Sunday at Grant Field, 2-0.
The first half was evenly played as both teams had the same number of shots and corners. Neither team came up with a score and the half ended in a scoreless tie.
At the 54:49 mark the Cardinals pushed across the first goal as Karah Nall scored off a deflection. Nicole Youman was credited with the assist.
Minutes later, Louisville added another goal. After a great defensive save by sophomore Becca Spengler, Youman chipped in the second Louisville goal.
Iowa recorded more corners and more shots than the Cardinals but was unable to push across a goal.
“There were some really bright spots today,” said Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum. “We have had some momentum the last couple of weeks. We have a really young team and we have to keep being diligent.”
The Hawkeyes will close the regular season in Washington D.C. next weekend. Iowa will play No. 9 James Madison on the campus of American University Friday at 1 p.m. CT. The Hawkeyes will then conclude the regular season Sunday at American University. The match is scheduled to begin at noon CT.
