IOWA CITY, IA — The Iowa Cubs have announced plans to open the 2010 season with an exhibition game against the University of Iowa Hawkeyes at Principal Park on April 7, 2010 at 6:35 p.m.

The Cubs and Hawkeyes will meet in a seven-inning contest one night before the Iowa Cubs open the 2010 Pacific Coast League season at home against the Nashville Sounds.

“This opportunity allows baseball fans in central Iowa to not only get an early look at the 2010 Iowa Cubs, but also the very talented University of Iowa baseball team,” said Iowa Cubs General Manager Sam Bernabe. “The Hawkeyes last played against the Iowa Cubs in a 2008 exhibition game to open the season and we are thrilled to welcome them back to Des Moines.”

“We are excited about the opportunity to play the Iowa Cubs again,” said Iowa Head Coach Jack Dahm. “This will be extra special with Hall-of-Famer Ryne Sandberg managing. We appreciate the relationship we have with the Iowa Cubs and everything that they’ve done for us.”

Iowa has played an exhibition against the Iowa Cubs every two years since 2004.

Tickets for the game will be $7 ($4 children) for general admission, $10 for Reserved Grandstand and Field Box seats and $12 for Club Box seats. Iowa Cubs season ticket holders will receive a ticket to the game with their season ticket package.
