GymHawks Prepare For SEMO

The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team will conclude its regular season March 19 when it travels to Camp Girardeau, MO, to take on the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks. Competition will take place in Houck Field House and is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. (CT).

Scouting the Redhawks
SEMO extended its winning streak in Houck Field House to ten straight with a 194.125-190.350 win over Centenary College March 12. The Redhawks were led by freshman Jordan Salsberg who won her second career all-around title with a score of 38.775.

Scouting the Hawkeyes
Iowa is coming off a tough meet against No. 10 Louisiana State March 12. The GymHawks fell, 197.150-195.400, despite earning their top team score of the season. Junior Rebecca Simbhudas led the pack with a second place finish in the all-around as she scored a 39.275.

Last Visit With SEMO
The last time the Hawkeyes took on SEMO was Jan. 9 of 2009 when they came to Iowa City, along with LSU, for a tri-meet in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Redhawks topped Iowa, 191.675-191.375. Houry Gebeshian, then a sophomore, kicked off her 2009 campaign with a fourth place finish in the all-around, scoring a 38.625.

Head Coach Larissa Libby
In her sixth season at Iowa, Larissa Libby has a career record of 52-61-1. She was named North Central Region Coach of the Year in 2009 for her efforts in guiding the GymHawks to a 10-5 record and a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Regionals. She was also named co-Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2008. Libby served as associate head coach in 2004 and assistant coach from 2001-03 at Iowa before being named head coach in 2005.
Next Competition
The GymHawks will begin their post season March 27 when they travel to Columbus, OH, for the Big Ten Championships. Competition will be held in St. John Arena and is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (CT).
