March 25, 2010

IOWA CITY, IA – University of Iowa men’s golfer Brad Hopfinger was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week after leading the 13th-seeded Hawkeyes to a fifth-place finish at the Callaway Collegiate Match-Play Championships in Marana, AZ. The junior went 3-1 on his way to becoming the first Hawkeye golfer since 2007 to win the conference’s weekly laurel.

Sitting in Iowa’s number one spot, the Lake Forest, IL, native bettered three of the nation’s top-100 collegiate golfers to propel Iowa over No. 14 Arizona State, No. 11 UNLV and most impressively, No. 2 Stanford. Hopfinger began with a one-up win over ASU’s Jesper Kennegard, currently ranked 17th in the nation. He then beat 84th-rated Riley Arp of Colorado State 2 & 1, before crushing Stanford’s fourth-ranked Sihwan Kim 6 & 5. Hopfinger is currently ranked 59th in the nation.

Hopfinger and the 42nd-ranked Hawkeyes will travel to Delray Beach, FL, to compete in the Spring Break Championships Friday. Florida Atlantic will host the tournament at Gleneagles Country Club. Live tournament scoring will be provided on golfstatresults.com.
