Iowa Places Sixth at Big Ten Championships

LAINGSBURG, MI- The University of Iowa rowing team placed sixth in the team scoring Saturday at the Big Ten Championships on Lake Ovid. The Hawkeyes earned 51 points as they qualified for the petite finals with five boats. Wisconsin took the Big Ten title with 148 team points.

Iowa’s varsity 8 boat took first place in the petite final. The Hawkeyes finished ahead of Minnesota and Indiana with a time of 6:29.22. Minnesota came in second with a time of 6:31.14, while Indiana finished third (6:44.31). The 2V8 boat for Iowa finished second in its petite final. Minnesota placed first in the event with a time of 6:42.06 and Iowa came in right behind at 6:44.71.

The Hawkeyes also qualified for the petite finals in the varsity 4’s and novice 8 events.

After the conclusion of the final heats, the Big Ten first and second team all-conference teams were announced.

Senior Shelia Rinozzi was named to the all-Big Ten first team while junior Jess Novack was named to the all-Big Ten second team.

The Hawkeyes will return to the water May 15–16 when they travel to Oakridge, TN, to compete in the Central Regionals.
