Rain Delays Second Round Of Central Regional, Hawkeyes In Sixth

May 21, 2010

NOTRE DAME, IN – The University of Iowa men’s golf team was in sixth place at the NCAA Central Regional Friday, before heavy rains forced officials to suspended play. The No. 38 Hawkeyes, however, finished their 18 holes for the second round and are in sixth place. Round two will conclude Saturday morning before 36-hole results are official.

Leading the Hawkeyes were junior Brad Hopfinger and sophomore Chris Brant who are tied for seventh. Both golfers have posted identical first and second rounds of 71 and 68, respectively, and are sitting at one-under par 139 going into the final day. Vince India fired another round of one-over par 71 which brought his total to 142 (+2). The junior is tied for 23rd. Barrett Kelpin improved in the second round as the sophomore carded a 72 (+2). He is now tied for 60th with a two-day total of 149 (+9). Sophomore Brad George fired an 82 (+12) on the day and is in 72nd with a score of 157 (+17).

Round two will resume from the point of interruption at 7 a.m. (CT) Saturday. Teams will not be re-paired based on the 36-hole standings, but will keep the pairings they had to begin the second round. Due to the overwhelming traffic on golfstat.com, live scoring has been down throughout the tournament. Golfstat is working on the issue and hopes to have everything running for tomorrow’s final round.
