IOWA CITY, Iowa – – The University of Iowa field hockey team lost to No. 15 Michigan Sunday at Grant Field, 2-0. The match was televised live by the Big Ten Network.

Defense was the theme in the first half. Both defenses and goalkeepers held strong and the first half ended with no score.

Michigan (9-5, 3-0) was awarded a penalty corner seven minutes into the second period. The Wolverines capitalized as Meredith Way scored to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

At the 53:06 mark, Way scored again off a penalty corner to push the Michigan lead to 2-0. The Hawkeye offense applied pressure throughout the remainder off the half but was unable to come away with a score.

Iowa (3-9, 0-3) returns to action next Friday. The Black and Gold will travel to Indiana. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. central time.
