BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – – The University of Iowa field hockey team lost at Indiana Friday in overtime, 2-1. The match was held at the IU Field Hockey Field.
The Hoosiers (8-5, 1-3) struck first in the 12th minute after being awarded a corner. Morgan Fleetwood found Lena Grote who scored to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. That would remain the score at halftime.
The Hawkeyes were awarded a corner early in the second period. Iowa answered as senior Sarah Pergine found sophomore Jessica Barnett who scored to even the match at one. The goal was the team-leading seventh of the year for Barnett.
Both defenses held strong the remainder of the second half, sending the game to overtime. In overtime, Corey Brautigam scored off a rebound at the 73:20 mark to give the Hoosiers the 2-1 victory.
Iowa (3-10, 0-4) returns to action Sunday. The Black and Gold will travel to No. 10 Louisville. The match is scheduled to begin at noon central time.
