LOUISVILLE, Ky. – – The University of Iowa field hockey team lost at No. 10 Louisville Sunday, 4-1. The match was held at Trager Stadium.
The Hawkeyes applied early pressure and struck first in the second minute of play. Freshman Kelsey Mitchell found fellow freshman Kim Scraper who scored to give Iowa a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals answered at the 11:04 mark to the tie match at one. Louisville (11-5) then scored in the 22nd minute to take a 2-1 lead. Nicole Youman found Karah Nall off a penalty corner to give the Cardinals the advantage.
In the final minute of the opening period, the Cardinals added a third goal to push their lead to 3-1 at the intermission. Louisville recorded a fourth goal late in regulation to claim a 4-1 victory.
Iowa (3-11) returns to action next Sunday. The Black and Gold will return home to host Big Ten rival Northwestern. The match is scheduled to begin at noon central time at Grant Field.
