Dallas, TX — The University of Iowa men’s golf team has jumped out to the first day lead at The Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. The No. 17 Hawkeyes hold a five-shot advantage over the 12-team leader board with a 36-hole score of 551 (-17). Last year’s tournament champion No. 12 Texas A&M (556, -12) is sitting in second while No. 10 Arkansas (564, -4) rounds out the top three.

As the Black and Gold search for an unbelievable fourth straight tournament team title on Tuesday, they will need to top a tournament field that includes four top-20 teams. Competition is being held at the par 71 “Royals Oaks” course at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas, TX.

Senior Vince India is the Hawkeye and individual tournament leader after firing back to back 66’s for a -10 total of 132.

“Vince respected his game plan today and continued to make birdies and stay aggressive the entire day,” said Head Coach Mark Hankins. “He continued to stay in the moment, didn’t get ahead of himself and ended up ten-under for the day.”

Brad Hopfinger also sits in the top-10 as his two-round total of 137 (-5) earned him a share of seventh place. The senior posted seven birdies and an eagle in route to first and second rounds of 68 (-3) and 69 (-2), respectively. Juniors Chris Brant and Barrett Kelpin both contributed with totals on the day of 141 (-1), giving them a share of 16th. Additionally, Brad George posted rounds of 76 (+5) and 74 (+3), giving him a share of 56th. The junior posted a 36-hole total of 150 (+8).

With just 18 holes standing between the Hawkeyes and a fourth straight title, Hankins’ golfers are simply focused on the task at hand and having guys move up the leader board.

“We’ve been in this situation before, so we’ll use that experience and work to win tomorrow’s eighteen holes,” said Hankins. “Each one of our guys has individual goals that will keep them focused on the golf left to play. We will work to be confident and patient and hopefully find our zone.”

Tee times for Tuesday’s third and final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. (CT). Fans can follow the action live at www.golfstatresults.com.
