Meet The Hawkeyes: Cassandra Escobar

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s tennis program would like to give fans a chance to meet the Hawkeyes new to the team. Cassandra Escobar is a 5-7 junior from Guatemala City, Guatemala. She joined the Black and Gold in the fall of 2010 after transferring from the University of New Orleans.

Why did you choose the University of Iowa?
“I chose Iowa because they have a really good tennis program and business school. I’m majoring in marketing.”

Favorite thing about the Iowa women’s tennis team?
“That everyone is really into it and they try their best. You can really see that everyone wants to improve and get better.”

Future plans after graduating from the University of Iowa?
“I might take a year off before I study for a MBA and go to grad school.”

What is your best tennis memory?
“When my tennis partner and I won a match against the No.1 seed in doubles at a tournament in Salvador.”

Who is the tennis player you look up to the most? Why?
“Roger Federer because you can see that he really concentrates and he’s really smart.”

What are your favorite things to do off the tennis court?
“I’m really active; I like to be outside when it’s nice and just walk around downtown or hang out with my friends. I really just like to be outdoors.”

If you could play another sport in college, what would it be?
“They don’t have handball but I could possibly play volleyball.”

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
“I would go to Europe, Spain mainly. I’ve never been to Europe and I’ve heard that Spain is really nice.”

If you could meet anyone, who would it be and why?
“My grandpa, he passed away.”

What is something/someone you can’t live without?
“My parents.”

What’s on your iPod?
“The top hits, pop music and most Spanish music.”
