Iowa MBB vs. Illinois

C, Jarryd Cole

On Illinois making most of their shots

“It’s tough, especially when it’s on your home court. You feel like you are supposed to have the advantage, but it seemed like everything was going their way. It felt so unfair, but credit to them; they hit some great shots and our defense wasn’t rotating like it should. We left a lot of their shots wide open. We should have had some more defensive pressure, and if we did I think we could have knocked some of their shots off.”

On taking away a positive outlook from the game

“We forced 17 turnovers and they are not a turnover type of team. Our defense wasn’t all bad, but it definitely needs to get better; especially in Big Ten play.”

On the team never giving up

“It’s just the will to want to compete. Competing is what’s important on this level, but it’s not everything. You can’t always rely on competition; you have to want to be successful. You can’t mistake hard work for success. We are a young team right now. We are trying to pull together and learn together, and grasp that concept. It’s a little harder than what it should be. We are going to keep trying until we click.”
