IOWA CITY, Iowa – – Head Coach Jack Dahm and the University of Iowa baseball team held its first official practice today in the Bubble.

The Hawkeyes return seven starters and 10 pitchers from a team that finished third in the Big Ten regular season and runner-up at the conference tournament a year ago.

Coach Dahm was pleased with the team’s effort in day one.

“The first day of practice went very well,” commented Dahm. “The guys are very excited about the upcoming season and are excited to get going. I thought we had real good energy and executed very well.”

One of the areas Coach Dahm wants to focus on the first couple weeks of practice is defense.

“We want to execute from a defensive stand point and be a good solid defensive team,” said Dahm. “I think we have the capabilities of not only being one of the better defensive teams in the Big Ten, but one of the best in the country with the number of returning players we have out there.”

The team will hold its annual Media Day on Feb. 10 and will open its season at the Big East/Big Ten Challenge, Feb. 18-20 in Tampa, Fla. The Hawkeyes will open play against West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Seton Hall.
