NCAA Spots Up for Grabs at Conference Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The NCAA has announced the qualifier allocations for the 2011 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The Big Ten is receiving 64 automatic qualifiers for the March 17-19 NCAA Championships in Philadelphia, more than any other conference and eight more than it received a year ago.

The Big Ten will receive eight automatic qualifiers at 133, 149 and 174 pounds. The top six wrestlers at 141, 157, 184, 197 and heavyweight and the top five finishers at 125 and 165 will earn qualifying spots.

After all of the qualifying events have concluded, the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee will meet in-person to select the remaining 48 at-large qualifiers. All weight classes will consist of 33 wrestlers.

The complete tournament field will be announced on the NCAA Division I Wrestling selection show, broadcast March 9 on broadband via NCAA.com. The show will air Wednesday, March 9 at 5 p.m. (CT).

The NCAA also released also released its 2011 RPI rankings Wednesday afternoon. University of Iowa wrestlers Matt McDonough (125) and Luke Lofthouse (197) were on top of their respective weight classes.
