IOWA CITY, Iowa – – The Big Ten Conference announced today that University of Iowa junior pitcher Nick Brown has been named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week.

Brown earns Pitcher of the Week accolades for the first time in his career after leading Iowa to an 11-2 win over Notre Dame last Friday. The junior starter tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits without issuing a walk. The right-hander also struck out three en route to his second win of the season. The native of Wheaton, Ill., ranks among the Big Ten’s best in opponents’ batting average, allowing the opposition to hit just .230 against him this season.

“We are happy to see Nick get recognized for his efforts,” said Iowa Head Coach Jack Dahm. “Nick is throwing the ball really well. He has been our most consistent starter so far this season. He had good outings against some of the top offensive teams in the country in Pittsburgh, Texas Tech, Mississippi State and Notre Dame. We’re excited about the direction he’s going.”

Brown becomes Iowa’s first pitcher to earn the conference weekly honor since Brock Alberts on March 3, 2008.

The Hawkeyes return to action this weekend, hosting Western Illinois in their home opener on Friday. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Duane Banks Field.
