IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa baseball team will host two mid-week games against South Dakota State this week. The Hawkeyes will host the Jackrabbits Tuesday and Wednesday at 4:05 p.m. each day. Tuesday’s start time was moved up due to possible weather. Both contests will be played at Duane Banks Field.
Iowa and South Dakota State split two mid-week contests in 2010 in the first ever meeting between the two teams. The Jackrabbits claimed the first game last year at Duane Banks Field, 12-10. The Hawkeyes won game two, 6-5.
South Dakota State, coached by Ritchie Price, is 7-9. The Jackrabbits have not competed in nine days. They swept four games from Northern Colorado the last time they competed, March 18-20.
Over the weekend, Iowa took two-of-three contests from Western Illinois. Iowa fell to the Leathernecks Friday at home, 4-2, before defeating Western Illinois Saturday at Duane Banks Field, 5-4. The two teams met Sunday in Macomb, Ill. The Hawkeyes won the rubber match, 6-2.
Iowa opens its Big Ten slate Friday when it hosts Michigan State for a three game series at Duane Banks Field (Friday-Sunday). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. on Friday. Admission for all Hawkeye home games this season at Duane Banks Field is $3 for adults, and free for UI students and youths.
