IOWA CITY, IOWA – – University of Iowa senior Vince India has been named Big Ten Conference men’s Big Ten Golfer of the Week after finishing second at the LSU National Invitational. The announcement was made Wednesday by the Big Ten Conference office.

The honor is the first for India, a native of Deerfield, Ill., and the first for a Hawkeye men’s golfer this spring. India’s three-round score of even-par 216 led the 14th-ranked Hawkeyes to a third-place finish at the LSU National Invitational. The senior opened the tournament by firing back-to-back rounds of 71 (-1) on the first day of competition. He concluded the event with a 2-over 74 in the third round en route to second place. India was the only player to finish two rounds at or under par.

India is currently ranked seventh in the nation in the individual rankings. As a team, Iowa is ranked 12th in the nation by Golfstat.com and 14th in the most recent Division I Golf World/Nike Coaches poll.

India is the first Hawkeye men’s golfer to earn the award since Brad Hopfinger was recognized March 24, 2010.

The Hawkeyes return to action April 16-17, hosting the 18th- annual Hawkeye TaylorMade Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City.
