IOWA CITY, Iowa — Brent Metcalf knows the road to the 2012 Summer Olympic Games runs through Iowa City next April when the UI’s revitalized Carver-Hawkeye Arena plays host to the 2012 USA Wrestling Olympic Trials.
However, the road to London as a member of the U.S. Olympic wrestling squad is a long one and includes the ASICS U.S. Open Wrestling National Championships this weekend in Cleveland. Metcalf, who earned all-America status three times during his career at the UI, is the No. 1 seed in the freestyle competition at 145.5 pounds.
“I’m getting that elite level of competition every time I go out, and it makes a difference. You either got to get better, quit, or accept losing. I’m not going to accept losing and I’m not going to quit, so I’ve bot to get better,” Metcalf told Andy Hamilton of the Iowa City Press-Citizen. To read the full story click HERE.
Metcalf won’t be the only Hawkeye on mat in Cleveland this weekend. He’ll be joined by former teammates Daniel Dennis (121), Ryan Morningstar (163), Phil Keddy (185) and Dan Ereckson (211.5), and former Hawkeye and current assistant coach Mike Zadick (132).

All-session tickets for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials next April in Iowa City will go on sale to the general public in early June. However, University of Iowa wrestling season ticket holders will have the first opportunity to purchase all-session tickets to the special event – and secure the very best seats available – when they renew their UI wrestling season ticket order and select their new seat locations in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
That “re-seating process” will begin on April 18. Fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes with questions about the re-seating process for UI wrestling season ticket holders can contact the UI Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800 IA-HAWKS.
