IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa baseball team will host Kansas in a mid-week contest Tuesday night. The Hawkeyes will play the Jayhawks at 6:05 p.m. at Duane Banks Field. Admission is $3 for adults, and free for UI students and youths.
Kansas, coached by ninth-year head coach Ritch Price, is 15-17 overall and 6-6 in Big 12 action. The Jayhawks are 1-7 away from home this season. Kansas defeated future Big Ten conference member Nebraska Sunday at home. The Jayhawks scored a season-high 11 runs in the 11-5 win.
Iowa is 8-15 all-time against Kansas. The two teams played earlier this season in Lawrence. The Black and Gold grabbed an early 1-0 lead, but Kansas rallied for a 5-2 victory at Hoglund Stadium on Feb. 28.
The Hawkeyes (12-17, 2-4) played a three-game series at Illinois over the weekend. Iowa dropped two-of-three to the Fighting Illini. Friday, the Hawkeyes led in late innings, but Illinois rallied for a 4-3 victory. Iowa bounced back with an impressive outing Saturday, winning 7-4. Matt Dermody earned his third win of the year. The sophomore starter pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out a career-high eight. The Black and Gold led 7-6 in the eighth inning Sunday, but the Fighting Illini rallied to claim the rubber match, 11-7.
Iowa continues Big Ten play Friday when it hosts Indiana for a three-game set. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. It will be televised live on the Big Ten Network (HD). The Hawkeyes and Hoosiers will also play Saturday and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. each day. All games will be played at Duane Banks Field.
