IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa women’s rowers Jessica Novack and Molly Pollpeter were recognized by the Big Ten Conference Sunday after the 2011 Big Ten Championships. Novak was named to the 1st-team All-Big Ten Conference, while Pollpeter was named to the 2nd-team All-Big Ten Conference.
This marks Novack’s first time being named to the 1st-team All-Big Ten. Previously she was named to the 2nd-team All-Big Ten in the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Last season Novack was named an All-American by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. The Coaches Association also selected her to the All-Region team the past two seasons.
Pollpeter’s 2nd-team All-Big Ten selection scripts her first time being recognized by the Big Ten for the accolade. Last season she named academic All-Big Ten.
“The two-student athletes earning all-conference awards were honored for physical and technical strength,” said Head Coach Mandi Kowal. “The awards were well deserved. Furthermore, it recognizes their strong presence while practicing and racing for the Hawkeyes.”
Senior Allison Lofthouse received the 2011 sportsmanship award for the Hawkeyes. The award is given to those who have demonstrated the ideals of sportsmanship, which are fairness, civility, honesty, unselfishness, respect and responsibility.
