Brant and Cermak Earn Big Ten Honor

June 3, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Junior men’s golfer Chris Brant and senior women’s basketball player Kelsey Cermak were among the 22 Big Ten student-athletes named Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2010-11 academic year. The pair were chosen from a group of 276 student-athletes honored throughout the academic year who had displayed positive sportsmanship.

Brant, a second team all-Big Ten selection in 2011, was the runner-up at the 2011 Big Ten Championships. The Edwardsville, Ill., native then tied for seventh place at the NCAA Indiana Regional before tying for 20th place to lead the squad at the NCAA Championships.

Cermak played in all 31 games, helping lead the Hawkeyes to a 22-9 overall record and their fourth straight NCAA Tournament berth. The Academic all-Big Ten selection averaged 2.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 13.1 minutes per contest.

One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree. From each university’s list, two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected.
