Lacasse Earns Second Consecutive Conference Honor

Sept. 12, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa. — University of Iowa freshman Cloe Lacasse was named the Big Ten Conference’s Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week. The conference office announced Monday. Lacasse earned the nod after scoring three goals and tallying an assist in helping the Hawkeyes post a pair of wins and improve to 7-0 on the season.

Lacasse spearheaded the team’s offense for the fourth week in a row, leading Iowa to wins over Iowa State (4-1) and South Dakota (5-0) last weekend. The Sudbury, Ontario, native scored two of the four goals against the Cyclones and posted one goal and an assist in the win over the Coyotes.

With her efforts in the pair of wins, the freshman earned a place on Iowa’s season goals (9) and season points (21) top-10 lists. With over half of the season remaining, Lacasse is aiming for 15 goals and 36 points to break both records.

The first conference honor (Sept. 5) came on the heels of a three goal, one assist weekend in Washington, D.C.

Lacasse is the second Hawkeye to win the conference honor this season. Senior goalkeeper Emily Moran was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 22. The freshman is the first newcomer to earn the conference nod twice in a season.
