IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa field hockey team defeated Central Michigan, 1-0, Saturday at Grant Field. The 12th-ranked Hawkeyes move to 6-1 with the victory and extend their winning streak to five games.
“It was good to get the win,” said head coach Tracey Griesbaum. “We will prepare for Missouri State tomorrow.”
Iowa applied pressure on the Central Michigan defense in the first half, recording eight shots and four penalty corners, but was unable to come away with a goal. The game was scoreless at the half.
Sophomore Kim Scraper ended the tie game in the second half, as she chipped in her conference-leading 13th goal of the season at the 43:03 mark to give Iowa a 1-0 lead. Senior Becca Spengler was credited with the assist.
Hawkeye goalkeeper Kathleen McGraw and the Iowa defense helped secure the Hawkeyes’ third shutout of the season as they denied the Chippewa offense for the remainder of the contest.
Iowa returns to action tomorrow. The Hawkeyes host Missouri State at 1 p.m. at Grant Field. Admission is free. The contest will be streamed live on BTN.com.
