BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The University of Iowa women’s soccer team traveled to Bloomington, Ind. to take on the Indiana Hoosiers in the first road game of the conference season, earning the win with a 1-0 decision. With the victory, the Hawkeyes move to 9-0-1 on the season.

Katie Nasenbenny struck first for Iowa. The sophomore hit the net in the 42 minute of play after forcing a turnover and taking on an Indiana defender one-on-one. Nasenbenny’s goal was her fifth of the season.

“Katie went in on the goalkeeper and finished from 18 yards out,” said head coach Ron Rainey. “The great thing about the goal is that it was a minute after her first opportunity that was missed. She forgot that one and finished on the next. It was a great finish.”

In the 71st minute, freshman Cloe Lacasse earned a penalty kick opportunity after being tackled in the box. Lacasse’s attempt went towards the left corner, but Indiana’s goalkeeper, Lindsay Campbell, guessed right and dove to the left, making the stop. Lacasse recorded three shots on goal.

“The goalkeeper made a great decision on that play and got the stop,” Rainey said.

Senior Emily Moran recorded all 90 minutes in goal for Iowa. Moran earned the 31st win of her career after making six saves.

“I am really excited about result for the team,” said Rainey. “This was a game where our defense really limited their dangerous opportunities and worked to shut out the other team. I think now, it is one of those things where we have to recover quickly and get ourselves mentally ready to do this again in two days.”

The win is the first Iowa conference win on the road since the 2007 team beat Minnesota in Minneapolis, 1-0.

Rainey and the Hawkeyes head north to West Lafayette, Ind. to face Purdue Sunday afternoon. The teams kickoff at 1:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
