Hawkeyes Announce Team Captains

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s rowing team announced its team captains for the 2011-12 season. The program officially kicks off the 2011 fall season Saturday and Sunday at the Head of the Oklahoma.

Seniors Kendra Klaczak, Molly Pollpeter and Sarah Radke and junior Katy Kroll will captain the Hawkeye crews. Last season Klaczak competed in two fall events and all five spring events. She was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team. Pollpeter, a member of the 1V8+ was named second-team All-Big Ten and Academic All-Big Ten team last season. Radke competed in the 1V4+ last season and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten. Kroll competed in all fall and spring events last season as a member of the 1V8+.

The Hawkeyes have three fall events this season. They open the season Saturday at the Head of the Oklahoma. The team will travel to Rockford, Ill. Oct. 9 for the Head of the Rock where they will raise awareness for breast cancer by wearing pink headbands. Iowa will conclude the fall season at home when they host the Head of the Iowa Oct.30.

“I’m looking forward to working with this year’s group of captains,” said Head Coach Mandi Kowal. “I think they are a good balance and all have key strengths to lead the team. I know they’re all passionate about leading the team and making this year’s group fast.”
