ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Iowa field hockey team fell at No. 14 Michigan, 2-0, Saturday at Ocker Field in Ann Arbor, Mich. Iowa, ranked 12th nationally, is 8-3 overall and 1-2 in Big Ten play.
“We did not step up to the challenge today,” said head coach Tracey Griesbaum. “Our level of focus, teamwork, and execution were lacking.”
The Wolverines (8-3, 1-1) took a 1-0 lead after being awarded a penalty corner at the 13:30 mark. Aline Fobe scored off a pass from Bryn Bain on the corner push to give Michigan the early advantage. The home team led at the half, 1-0.
The Hawkeye offense applied pressure in the early moments of the second half. The visitors recorded three shots and two penalty corners in the first six minutes but were unable to tie the score.
