Feb. 27, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa basketball fans have two unique opportunities to vote for the Roy Devyn Marble and Matt Gatens in different online competitions.

Marble is one of seven other finalists for the 2012 Geico Play of the Year. Fans can vote for Marble once per day until March 5 at facebook.com/bestofcollegebasketball. The winner will be announced on GEICO presents Best of College Basketball 2012 on CBS March 25, at noon (CT).

Marble won week seven voting for his monster jam against Minnesota. To vote for Marble and to watch him and the other finalists in action, visit: (facebook.com/BestofCollegeBasketball).

During Iowa’s game against Big Ten-rival Minnesota, Marble curled around a screen set by Zach McCabe at the top of the key, and drove hard for the basket. The help-side defense was late and Marble threw down a monster jam in the face of Gopher Ralph Sampson III. The Hawkeye’s defeated Minnesota 63-59. To view the play on YouTube, click HERE.

The seven other finalists are: Christian Watford (Indiana), Robbie Hummel (Purdue), Damen Bell-Holter (Oral Roberts), Chase Spreen (Lindsey Wilson), Peyton Siva (Louisville), C.J. Fair (Syracuse), and Isaiah Sykes (Central Florida).

Gatens is one three players who had outstanding performances last week against Wisconsin. Fans can vote for his 33-point outburst being ESPNs Capital One Cup Impact Performance of the Week. Gatens drained his first five 3-pointers against the Badgers to extend his school record streak of consecutive 3-pointers to 12. He finished the game 7-of-10 (.700) from long distance.
