IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Iowa basketball program introduced a new youth camp this year, its Father/Son camp. Fathers and sons are participating in the camp tonight and through tomorrow morning at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The camp is an opportunity for fathers and sons to come together and learn basketball at a very introductory level. Attention will be focused on development of young basketball players as their fathers work alongside them. Along with the fundamentals of basketball, the camp emphasizes the importance of building meaningful relationships.

Children in kindergarten to sixth grade are enjoying quality time with their father, current Hawkeyes and the Iowa coaching staff.

The response to the camp was overwhelming. In fact, fathers and sons from nine different states are being represented. Mark Campbell drove with his son Carter from Tennessee. Mark has a brother from Council Bluffs and they both decided it would be a great opportunity to have some fun with their sons, the current Hawkeye players and coaches.

“I love basketball,” Mark said. “I was raised in Iowa and have loved Hawkeye basketball ever since I was a child.”

Carter was all smiles before the camp even started. His favorite Hawkeye is sophomore guard Josh Oglesby and the two of them got to play a little one-on-one before the camp even started.

“I’m really excited for this camp,” said Carter.

Mark likes where the overall direction the Iowa basketball program is headed.

“I like McCaffery’s style of basketball, how he coaches and conducts himself in interviews,” said Mark. “I’m very impressed with him.”

Speaking of McCaffery… the head coach is being a dad during tonight’s session. He is going through the drills, stations and contests with his youngest son Jonathan.
