9 Hawkeyes Earn Academic Honor

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Nine members of the University of Iowa men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have earned Scholar All-America awards by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

The Scholar All-America award is presented to swimmers and divers who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher during the semester or as their cumulative average, and those who have qualified for their respective national championship. Honorable mention accolades are presented to student-athletes that post NCAA `B’ qualifying times, but do not compete in the NCAA Championships.

Freshman Becky Stoughton earned Scholar All-America honors after competing in the 1,650 free at the NCAA Championships. Stoughton earned honorable mention All-America honors after placing ninth with a time of 16:03.42.

Seniors Danielle Carty and Daniela Cubelic and sophomores Joelle Christy, Abby Grilli and Karolina Wartalowicz each were honorable mention Scholar All-Americans.

On the men’s team, junior Byron Butler and sophomores Manuel Belzer and Kyle Noser were also honorable mention Scholar All-Americans.
