IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving team was named a 2012 Scholar All-America team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, the organization announced Monday. It is the eighth straight year for the program to receive the team academic honor.

The Hawkeyes boasted a 3.59 team grade point average during the 2011-12 season, which is tied for the third best mark in the country with fellow Big Ten foe Northwestern. A total of 144 programs received the team academic recognition.

Last week, six UI women’s swimmers — Becky Stoughton, Danielle Carty, Daniela Cubelic, Joelle Christy, Abby Grilli and Karolina Wartalowicz — each earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honors.

The Hawkeyes will open the 2012-13 season Oct. 13, hosting the annual Black & Gold Intrasquad meet at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center beginning at 11 a.m.
