Facilities Entice the Oohs and Ahhs

Aug. 3, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Not much could outshine Friday’s first practice for the new-look University of Iowa football team. The new-look football facilities did.

The Hawkeyes kicked off the 2012 season with a morning practice on the two renovated grass fields of the Kenyon Football Practice Facility. Even though the shadow cast from the new indoor practice facility didn’t reach the outdoor practice fields, the entire facilities package made quite a cool impression on players and coaches a like.

“It’s like a new place, a new atmosphere,” said senior wide receiver Keenan Davis, the first Hawkeye to enter the outdoor facility for the first practice.

“This place is nice,” said senior cornerback Micah Hyde. “The indoor facility is amazing and huge. We have nice grass fields out here and I’m excited. I’m happy it’s here for my senior year.”

“It’s outstanding. It’s a great atmosphere,” wide receivers coach Erik Campbell said. “You come out here to nice grass fields and you can see the big indoor facility. We have some of the best facilities in the country.

And for the record, the effort by the Hawkeyes during Practice 1 was pretty impressive, too.

In a change from the past few years, Iowa will have three days of practice before its annual media day, which will be Monday, Aug. 6.
