STANFORD, Calif. — The 10th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team won a 3-0 decision against UC Davis (3-3) on Monday in its final game of a three-game road trip in Stanford, Calif. The Hawkeyes went 2-1 on the trip, improving to 4-2 this season. All three games were played Stanford’s Varsity Field Hockey Turf.

“Overall, we had great effort and positive results from a lot of different goal scorers this weekend,” said head coach Tracey Griesbaum. “That’s a reflection of the whole team when you can be very balanced like that.”

Sophomore Dani Hemeon scored two of Iowa’s three goals via penalty corners against UC Davis. Hemeon scored first at the 5:39 mark. It was the only goal of the first half, as Iowa led 1-0 at intermission.

Hemeon struck again during the 53rd minute, giving the Hawkeyes a 2-0 advantage. Hemeon scored her third and fourth goals of the season, tying her for the team lead with senior Jessica Barnett and junior Aubrey Coleman. It was the first multi-goal game of Hemeon’s career. Senior Geena Lesiak and junior Niki Schultheis assisted on both of Hemeon’s goals — their team-leading fifth assists of the season.

Sarah Drake padded the Iowa lead, scoring the first goal of her senior campaign at the 68:05 mark. Drake scored after collecting a missed shot.

“Sarah is off to a really solid start this season,” said Griesbaum. “She’s provides phenomenal leadership and kept our team together offensively and defensively this weekend.”

Senior Kathleen McGraw registered her second-straight shutout, making three saves. All three of her saves came in the second half. McGraw, 4-2, has posted three shutouts this season (Missouri State, Pacific, UC Davis).

The Hawkeyes return home for a Sunday showdown against No. 21 Albany. Action will begin at noon (CT) at Grant Field.
