EVANSTON, Ill. — University of Iowa freshmen Cory Clark and Sammy Brooks wrapped their Midlands’ debuts with respective top-eight finishes when the 50th annual event concluded today on the Northwestern campus.
Clark, the tournament’s No. 3 seed at 125, lost a 10-6 decision to No. 2 Jarrod Garnett (VA Tech) in the semifinals and ended the tournament with a fourth-place finish.
Brooks advanced to the medal round with a 5-3 win over No. 9 Mac Stoll (NDSU) in the wrestle-backs. He lost a 7-1 decision to Jake Waste (Buffalo) to finish eighth in the 184-pound bracket.
Former Hawkeye All-American and 2008 Midlands champion Daniel Dennis finished runner-up at 133 pounds. Former Hawkeye All-American Montell Marion finished third at 149 pounds.
