The Hawkeyes host a doubleheader Saturday at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Iowa will take on Drake at 11 a.m. before facing Western Illinois at 3:30 p.m. Live match updates will be available on the Iowa women’s tennis schedule page at hawkeyesports.com and via twitter @iowa_tennis.
SEABORNE IN THE RANKINGS
Junior Ruth Seaborne earned the No. 123 spot in the ITA rankings released yesterday. Seaborne currently leads the Hawkeyes at the No. 1 singles position with an impressive 4-0 record, including victories over two ranked opponents. Seaborne topped No. 58 Britney Sanders of Notre Dame (6-2, 6-3) and No. 112 Matea Cutura of DePaul (6-4, 4-6, 11-9). Seaborne has also teamed with sophomore Morven McCulloch at the No. 1 doubles position. The duo has posted a spotless record, helping secure the doubles point against Iowa State, Notre Dame, and Creighton.
HARAZIN PERFECT IN FEBRUARY
After dropping her first dual match of the season, junior Christina Harazin has rallied to a 3-1 record. Harazin topped Julie Sabacinski of No. 18 Notre Dame in three sets at the No. 5 position. She then jumped to the No. 4 spot to pick up a straight set victory over Creighton’s Amanda Noonan. Harazin returned to the No. 5 position to earn her first victory over a ranked opponent, defeating No. 119 Jarret Fisher of No. 71 DePaul.
THE SERIES
Saturday’s match marks Iowa’s first encounter against Drake since sweeping the Bulldogs 7-0 for three consecutive years from 2004-06. The Hawkeyes will take on the Fighting Leathernecks for the first time since sweeping WIU 7-0 four years ago.
GAMEDAY PROMOTIONS
Saturday’s doubleheader is themed “Pink Day”, with free pink towels and pink wristbands for fans. The feature player is sophomore Ellen Silver.
UP NEXT
The Hawkeyes host No. 43 Oklahoma on Feb. 22 at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Doubles action will begin at 3 p.m.
