The University of Iowa men’s tennis team continues its spring season on Sunday hosting Western Michigan at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Action against Western Michigan will begin at 11 a.m.
HAWKEYES TAKE DOWN CREIGHTON
Iowa started off strong against Creighton, winning all three doubles matches to gain the lone doubles point. The Hawkeyes carried that momentum into singles play and won all six of their singles matches. Among the highlights, freshman Dominic Patrick won his third singles match in a row and Hagan won by retirement in No. 1 singles as his oppoenent Paluch was injured during the third set.
IOWA PERFECT AGAIN VS. BUTLER
Coming off a 7-0 victory against Creighton, Iowa didn’t let up against Butler as the Hawkeyes defeated the Bulldogs in convincing fashion, 7-0. To start, Iowa won two of three doubles matches to gain the doubles point once again. Singles play saw more of the same as all six Hawkeyes earned a victory in singles play. Jonas Dierckx and Garret Dunn paced Iowa as they both won their fifth singles match of the spring season.
DIERCKX SHINES AGAINST CREIGHTON AND BUTLER
Junior Jonas Dierckx put together an impressive outing during the dual meet double header against Creighton and Butler. On the day, Dierckx went 4-0 individually winning both of his singles and doubles matches. Dierckx improved his singles record to 5-1 on the spring season. Additionally, Dierckx improved his doubles record to 5-0 overall on the spring season.
HEAD COACH Steve Houghton
Steve Houghton, the dean of Big Ten tennis coaches, is in his 32nd year as head coach of the Hawkeyes. He has compiled a career record of 337-364 (.481), recording the most wins of any coach in Iowa men’s tennis history.
