UPCOMING ACTION
The University of Iowa women’s tennis team will open up Big Ten action this week beginning with No. 10 Nebraska on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., followed by No. 8 Northwestern on Friday at 3:30 p.m., and rounding out the week with No. 33 Illinois on Sunday at 12 p.m. All three matches will take place at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. HINDMARSH STAYS UNBEATEN
Freshman Caitlin Hindmarsh is the second Hawkeye in many years to start the season 5-0, Sonja Monar started the season 6-0 last year at the No. 1 position.
SEABORNE AND McCULLOCH ENTER THE RANKINGS
Junior Ruth Seaborne and sophomore Morven McCulloch earned the No. 42 spot in the Feb. 25 ITA tennis rankings. They duo is currently 7-1 at the Hawkeyes’ No. 1 position. Seaborne and McCulloch have helped secure the doubles point in six of Iowa’s eight matches. On Feb. 22, they defeated Oklahoma’s 36-ranked Hermone Brhane and Whitney Ritchie, 9-8.
A SCHEDULE OF STREGNTH
Beginning with No. 10 Nebraska, Iowa’s next five opponents are listed on the Feb. 26 ITA rankings. Seven of the eleven Big Ten teams have earned a spot in the ITA rankings. Northwestern leads the way at No. 8. Nebraska sits at No. 10, followed by Michigan (No. 13), and Purdue (No. 14). Illinois earned the No. 33 spot, while Penn State sits at No. 35, and Ohio State rounds out the list at No. 55. Iowa recorded their last win over a ranked opponent on March 30, 2012 when they upset No. 46 Penn State (4-3).
DOUBLES STREAK REACHES 26
The Hawkeyes swept the doubles point against Marquette on Feb. 23. Iowa has won its last 26 matches when sweeping the doubles point.
UP NEXT
The Hawkeyes will travel to Malibu, Calif., to take on No. 69 Dartmouth on March 18. Iowa will then travel to Long Beach, Calif., to compete against No. 39 Long Beach State at 4 p.m. on March 20, followed by a match against Cal State Northridge in Los Angeles at 4 p.m. on March 21.
