Rowing Opens Spring Season in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Iowa women’s rowing team opened its spring season in Austin, Texas on Friday, facing Central Florida on Lady Bird Lake. The Hawkeyes finished ahead of Central Florida in three of the four races on the day.

Central Florida opened the competition with a win over Iowa in the Novice 8. The Knights came in with a time of 7:25.25 and Iowa finished second in 7:29.3.

The Hawkeyes picked up their first win of the day in the Varsity 4, as the Hawkeyes finished ahead of Central Florida in 7:58.0. The Knights crossed the line in 8:13.2. The 2V8 kept things going with a win in 7:09.6, ahead of Central Florida’s 7:17.1

Iowa finished the day with a win over Central Florida in the Varsity 8, coming in with a time of 7:01.9. The Knights finished in 7:09.01.

With only one week on the water, the team showed patience today,” head coach Steve Pritzker said. “However, we need to show tremendous growth in the first part of our races to make the progress we are looking for.”

The Hawkeyes return to Lady Bird Lake on Saturday to face Southern Methodist in the morning and host-school Texas in the afternoon.
